Andy Warhol, the “father” of consumerism, advertising and “Pop Art” is celebrated in an unusual location, the Romaest Shopping Center, with an original exhibition which displays his entire artistic path, from 1957 to 1987.
Warhol the great painter, sculptor and director, dead in New York in 1987 at the age of 59, is the authentic personification of the artistic movement that involves the United States during the economic boom.
The exhibition is called “Andy Warhol in the City” and presents about 40 works on loan from the “Rosini Gutman collection”. On display we can admire many masterpieces, like famous portraits of Hollywood Stars of that time ( the beautiful Marilyn Monroe, the charming Liz Taylor, Michael Jackson, Liza Minnelli, and many others), or famous symbols of “consumerism” of the modern man (the old Coca Cola bottles, the Campbell’s Flowers sup cans), till the less known Space Fruits or Gold Book, designed by Warhol for his first solo exhibition at the Bodley Gallery of New York.
The event is organized by Pubbliwork Events and Larry Smith and also presents record’s cover design like Rolling Stones’s Velvet Underground or the cover magazine for Interview Magazine.
In addiction to the star Hollywood icons there are also artistic considerations about the theme of death and electric chair, along with works, for Warhol’s lovers, like “Book of my Garden”, “Cats”, “Washington Monument Unique Print 1974”.
The exhibition shows a really rich outfitting and is completely free, you can admire Warhol’s masterpieces just walking through the shopping center.
For sure it is a winning and original initiative, with the aim to get visitors closer to the artist’s world.
“Through Andy Warhol’s exhibition and other artistic events, such as classical music concerts, the shopping center RomaEst wants to create an environment of cultural gathering, like in real city square” said Riccardo Lucchetti, shopping center director.
